Sixers' Doc Rivers named East Coach of the Month for January

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers receives a lot of criticism, fairly or unfairly, from the fan base in Philadelphia, but there is no question that the guy understands how to coach and how to win in this league.

The future Hall of Fame coach led the Sixers to an 11-3 record in the month of January including an impressive 5-0 road trip out to the West Coast on his way to being named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January. On that road trip, the Sixers trailed the Sacramento Kings by as many as 21 and they rallied to win despite missing Joel Embiid and James Harden due to injury management.

Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone took home the award in the Western Conference.

Rivers and the Sixers will now be looking to continue their winning ways in the month of February. Philadelphia will begin a three-game road trip on Friday when they pay a visit to the San Antonio Spurs.
