'Silver Linings Playbook' musical is being made for Broadway

An Oscar-winning film is set to get the Broadway treatment.

The stage musical adaptation of "Silver Linings Playbook" is in the works after producer James D. Stern obtained the rights to the project, he told The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on an unlikely bond between two people, portrayed by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, who come together for a dance competition while dealing with their own personal hardships.

"I've thought Silver Linings Playbook would make a perfect musical since it was first released," Stern told The Hollywood Reporter. "I am thrilled to now be moving ahead with wonderful creative writers to open this show on Broadway."

Lawrence won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie, which came out in 2012.

"Silver Linings Playbook" earned eight Oscar nominations overall, with Best Picture among them.

Directed by David O. Russell, the film is based the 2008 novel "The Silver Linings Playbook" by Matthew Quick. The movie also stars Robert De Niro.

Broadway shows recently started returning to the Great White Way after shutting their doors for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among those to return last month were "Hamilton," "Wicked" and "The Lion King."

Stern was a producer on the Broadway production of "Hairspray" that won the Tony Award for best musical in 2003.
