San Angelo man arrested after woman shot, police stand-off

SAN ANGELO - A San Angelo man has been arrested after a police stand-off following the shooting of a woman Sunday night.

At around 8:50 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, officers were dispatched to N. Pope Street in reference to a shooting victim. Police found a 50-year-old woman who was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release.

The woman was taken to Shannon Medical Center and was listed in stable condition as of Monday morning, the release stated.

SAPD's Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation and learned the alleged shooter was in a travel trailer in the 700 block of Spaulding Street.

As police began setting up a perimeter, the man discharged a firearm from inside the trailer. A brief stand-off followed, in which both a SWAT and Crisis Negotiation team arrived on scene, according to the news release.

Police said the man was taken into custody and later transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time, according to the news release.

Police later identified the man as Luis Herrera, 37.

"There is no danger to the public and no officers (or) civilians were injured during the course of this investigation," the release stated.

Police said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
