Police detain 3 suspects, arrest 1, after shooting in north Columbia

Three suspects were detained Monday afternoon, and one was arrested late Monday, by Columbia Police after a shooting in the northern part of the city.

The Columbia Police Department responded to reports of shots fired shots in the 2400 block of Paris Road Monday.

According to a police report on social media, two vehicles exchanged gunfire. One of the vehicles involved in the incident crashed. Three individuals in that car attempted to leave the scene on foot. Police detained those three suspects.

Late Monday evening, Montrez Ricketts, 43 of Columbia, was arrested by CPD. He has been charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The second vehicle escaped. However, through the police's investigation, individuals have been identified. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. Police say there is no threat to the public. The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
