A possible negotiated plea deal could be reached within a few weeks for a Galva man charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of grooming.

Alan Yelm, 33, appeared in Henry County Circuit Court Thursday with his attorney, Henry County Public Defender Lance Camp. Camp requested that the final pretrial conference for Yelm be scheduled for Aug. 22, telling Judge Terry Patton that a plea deal with the State should be reached by then.

Yelm was arrested and charged with the three counts in March. The State alleges that Yelm, between Jan. 27 and March 9, possessed photographs of a child "he knew or should have known" was under 18, and that the photographs depicted settings that involved "lewd exhibition" of the body. In Illinois, possession of child pornography is a Class 3 Felony and punishable by two to five years in prison.

During that same time frame of Jan. 27 through March 9, Yelm is alleged to have used the internet to solicit a child to commit the offense of distribution or production of child pornography by requesting nude photos from a person under the age of 18. The charge of grooming is a Class 4 Felony.
