Capital One Arena erupts into M-V-P chants for Porzingis originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Following a three-game skid, tonight felt like a must-win game at home. Wizards' fans were hungry for a good show and you could tell from the opening tip-off the Wizards' wanted to win badly, but nobody wanted to win more in front of the home fans than Kristaps Porzingis.
From the very jump, you could just tell that Porzingis was destined to have a monster night, putting together a new career-high in points. His energy led the Wizards to a 142-127 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
And the fans rewarded him with 'M-V-P' chants, at least for the evening.
Porzingis got the show started knocking down back-to-back-to-back threes to give the Wizards a quick 9-2 lead.
With Kyle Kuzma playing great ball as of late and Bradley Beal doing what Bradley Beal does on a nightly basis, it was time for the unicorn to have his chance at the spotlight. In just the first half Porzingis was ballin' out, tallying 29 points, 18 of his points coming on the long ball.
Porzingis did not take his foot off of the gas in the second half either. Porzingis poured in a career-high 41-points on 12-18 (66%) shooting from the field. To make matters even better, Porzingis finished 11-11 from the free-throw line.
The serenade came with 4:49 remaining in the 4th quarter. The big fella prevented the basket on one end, ran all the way down the floor to receive the dish from Kuzma and finished it off with an and-one lay-in, tying his original career-high of 40 points.
While at the line, Wizards fans in attendance gave him a resounding 'M-V-P' chant to cap off a great night and the extra point to set a new personal-best.
