A 12-year-old girl walking with her mother on a Greenwich Village street was punched in the face during an unprovoked attack Tuesday, police and sources said.
The girl was with her mom at the corner of Washington and Perry Sts. when a 34-year-old man walked up and suddenly walloped her at about 5:10 p.m.
The assailant didn't know either the girl or her mother, sources said.
The man took off on foot, but cops quickly caught up with him several blocks away at Morton and Greenwich Sts., where he was arrested, cops said.
Medics treated the girl at the scene for minor injuries to her eye. Her mother wasn't injured.
The man was taken into custody; charges were pending.
