Tucson man dies after crashing into railroad pole

A man died Friday evening after crashing into a railroad crossing pole in Tucson, police said.

The Tucson Police Department identified the victim as David Alan Ruben, 74.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. near East 22nd Street and South Euclid Avenue.

Based on witness statements and roadway footage, officers concluded that Ruben was traveling eastbound on 22nd Street when for unknown reasons he made a sudden movement, crashing the car into a railroad crossing pole and causing it to roll after colliding, police said.

Ruben was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic detectives are investigating the crash. No charges or citations are expected, according to the Police Department.
