WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump offered some words of advice to the people in charge of Fox News' programming after Rep. Eric Swalwell appeared on the network Wednesday night: Stay away from "losers."

Swalwell, a California Democrat who dropped out of the 2020 presidential race in June, appeared on "Fox News @ Night," where he told host Shannon Bream that Trump had orchestrated a "shakedown" to get Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Jow Biden.

Trump wondered why Bream and Fox News "waste airtime on Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell, who recently left the Presidential Primaries having attained a grand number of ZERO in the polls.

"I don't even know how that is possible. Fox should stay with the people that got them there, not losers!"

Swalwell sits on the House Intelligence Committee, which has been holding open hearings in the impeachment inquiry into allegations that Trump leveraged military aid to pressure Ukraine into opening investigations that would benefit him politically. And even before the Ukraine scandal surfaced, Swalwell had called for Trump's impeachment for the potential obstruction of justice acts outlined in former special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Swalwell routinely appears on Fox News, a favorite news outlet of the president because he considers its coverage more fair to him that other networks.

Trump often quotes Fox hosts on Twitter and touts the network's ratings relative to other cable news networks. But he also lashes out at Fox on social media for coverage that he perceives as negative.

Earlier this week, he called "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace "nasty" and "obnoxious" after a contentious interview with House Minority Whip Steve Scalise about the impeachment inquiry.

And it was not the first time Trump complained about Swalwell appearing on his favorite news network.

"Just watched Rep. Eric. Swalwell be asked endless softball questions by @marthamaccallum on @FoxNews about the phony Witch Hunt," Trump tweeted on July 23. "He was just forced out of the Democrat Presidential Primary because he polled at ZERO. Fox sure ain't what it used to be. Too bad!"

Some Republicans Have Grown Wary of Protests, Poll Shows

Most Americans continue to support the nationwide protests against racial injustice, but with President Donald Trump issuing an ever-more-combative barrage of attacks, new polling shows that some Republicans have grown wary of demonstrators' demands and retreated toward saying that racism is not in fact a big problem in the United States. At the start of June, many polls showed the emergence of a rare consensus around calls for racial justice and changes to policing, with a majority of Republicans joining other Americans in saying that racial discrimination is a big issue for the country. But a Monmouth University survey released Wednesday found that at the end of last month, just 40% of...
