Trump lashes out at "Crazy Nancy" Pelosi and San Francisco, suggests a primary challenge

President Donald Trump lashed out at Democrats and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a series of tweets Thursday morning, calling for a primary challenge for "Crazy Nancy," denouncing her San Francisco district as "filthy" and "dirty" and saying the "bogus impeachment scam" made it more difficult for him to deal with foreign leaders.

Trump quoted conservative commentator Bradley Blakeman as saying Pelosi had "no leverage over the Senate," a reference to the impasse over the transmission of articles of impeachment to the Senate.

The House of Representatives passed articles of of impeachment against Trump Dec. 18 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, but Pelosi said she would not send the articles over until the Senate determined its process for a trial. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said last week that Republicans and Democrats were at an "impasse."

Democrats accuse Trump of abusing his power by pressuring the government of Ukraine to open politically motivated investigations by withholding nearly $400 million in security assistance and an Oval Office meeting, and of obstructing Congress by stonewalling House Democrats' investigation into Ukraine.

Trump also wrote that the "bogus impeachment scam" has made it "more difficult" for him to negotiate with foreign leaders.

Trump also continued his attacks on Pelosi's San Francisco district as a "filthy dirty district" and "one of the worst anywhere in the U.S. when it comes to the homeless and crime." He called on Pelosi to clean up the district and help the homeless.

If she didn't do so, Trump suggested another California Democrat should challenge Pelosi in a primary election.

A primary challenger to Pelosi faces stiff odds. Pelosi took a commanding lead in her 2018 primary election with 68.5% of the vote and won re-election in November 2018 with 86.8% of the vote.
