The car was built by Bonneville specialists THR Manufacturing out of Ventura, California. It's the first Jetta we've seen with parachutes.
To improve the stock 2019 Jetta's drag coefficient of 0.27, the suspension has been lowered, and special Salt Flat wheels and tires have been fitted.
THR also built in a limited-slip differential for additional traction, while the interior has been stripped and fitted with all the required safety gear. Look closely: It's a stick shift!
Pretty mean looking for a Jetta.
The record to break in the Southern California Timing Association's BGC/G class is 208.472 mph. We wish the best of luck to VW North America!
VW will bring this new Jetta to Bonneville in August, hoping to break the BGC/G class record with a 209-mph run.
