Sox newcomer Franchy Cordero placed on COVID-19 injured list originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Boston Red Sox newcomer Franchy Cordero will have to wait a while to join his teammates for spring training in Fort Myers, Fla.
The 26-year-old outfielder, who was acquired in the three-team deal that sent Andrew Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Monday. It's currently unclear whether Cordero tested positive for COVID-19 or was a close contact with someone who had the virus.

Cordero can be activated from the COVID-19 related IL as soon as he clears MLB's protocols.
Through 95 games with the Royals and San Diego Padres, Cordero has hit .236 with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, and a .737 OPS. The Dominican Republic native has high upside with impressive power and speed, but injuries have plagued his career to this point.
