Nationals' Strengths: Top 10 things to appreciate when the reigning champs return to action

This is a challenging time.

It's challenging because people are losing their lives, their families and their friends. It's challenging because millions around the world are out of a job as the coronavirus outbreak continues to prove dangerous and difficult to contain. It's challenging because the world has come to a standstill while people isolate themselves in their homes and away from others.

It's challenging because, for the first time in over a century, people don't have sports to turn to when they want a distraction from the struggles and uncertainty of their lives.

What's made the coronavirus fallout so different from each of those other tribulations is that baseball, and nearly every other sport, has been affected just like everyone else: put on hold, unsure of when things will return to normal.

On Thursday, the Washington Nationals were supposed to raise a championship banner in front of a stadium filled with a sold-out crowd in the nation's capital. D.C. sports fans who waited 95 years in between World Series title will now have to wait a little bit longer to see that flag flying in the outfield.

The suspension of the MLB season has made those who love the game appreciate it more than maybe they ever have now that it's been taken away from them. But rather than look back on the best moments from the Nationals' World Series run or reflect on how far they've come since moving to Washington, let's talk about what we're going to look forward to when baseball finally does return.

Beginning April 6, we'll be releasing our list of the top 10 attributes of the Nationals that make them one of the most competitive teams in baseball. These could be players' best talents, their mannerisms on the field or the defining factor that helped deliver the Nationals their first championship in franchise history. In short, it'll be a look at the aspects of the team that fans should cherish just a little bit extra once "play ball" is yelled over the P.A. system at Nationals Park.

Follow along as we detail the 10 biggest strengths of the defending World Series champions that we're excited to watch again once baseball comes back.
