Australian PM: no evidence of TikTok misusing data

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Tuesday there was no evidence that Chinese-owned TikTok had abused the data of its hundreds of millions of users. "We have had a good look at this, and there is no evidence for us to suggest... that there is any misuse of any people's data," he told the Aspen Security Forum meeting in Aspen, Colorado. "There are plenty of things that are on TikTok that are embarrassing enough in public, but it's that sort of social media device," he said via videoconference, chuckling.

John Templeton, the famous fund manager who created the Templeton Growth Fund, remarked, "The time of maximum pessimism is the best time to buy and the time of maximum optimism is the best time to sell."If you would like to follow Mr. Templeton's advice, the casino sector is certainly a good place to start. Due to COVID-19, most, if not all casinos were closed for a significant period of time. Even after they re-opened, there is still concern regarding how long it will take for operations to normalize to pre-COVID-19 levels. While there's certainly a degree of risk involved, the down-trodden tickers can be the ones set to present intrepid investors with the most abundant returns. Japan short of rescue plans for regional lenders hit by pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic is deepening the pain for Japan's regional lenders, heightening concerns that a potential wave of business closures will test policymakers' ability to avert a damaging banking-sector crisis. Many central government and bank officials see the risk of a crisis emerging in the next few months, when more struggling firms could go under and hit regional banks already weakened by a shrinking domestic economy and years of ultra-low interest rates. "Banks are aggressively lending now because the government is asking them to, but that could change once it becomes clearer some companies cannot survive," one of the people said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement on May 10 that lockdown measures would be eased was the most watched programme of the year so far, with 18.7 million viewers, while the imposition of lockdown on March 23 was second...

Japan's Nintendo Co Ltd on Thursday is expected to post a 160% jump in first-quarter operating profit as its hit Switch console and titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons look set to extend a decade-high earnings streak. The escapist island life simulator became a major hit as its delayed release coincided with consumers staying home due to the coronavirus outbreak, boosting the gaming firm's earnings in a year with a thin pipeline for major Switch titles. In what is normally a lean quarter, Nintendo is seen posting an April-June profit surge at 71 billion yen ($670 million), according to Refinitiv SmartEstimate, based on the estimates of 12 analysts.
