A police department in a small Minnesota town is using its Twitter account to have a little fun on 4/20, the date many marijuana users around the world have adopted as their unofficial holiday.
"Undercover #420 operations are in place. Discreet traps have been set up throughout the city today," the Wyoming, Minn., police department tweeted early Thursday, along with a photo of bagged chips and xBox games and an officer holding a fishing net. "#Happy420."
The message quickly lit up Twitter, where it was retweeted more than 29,000 times as of early Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday night, the department posted a lighthearted message to local drug dealers.
The account even engaged with a user who referenced the recent controversy over a Pepsi commercial featuring Kendall Jenner.
A few hours later, the department posted several tweets that effectively harshed the mellow, linking to the state's substance abuse hotline.
"All jokes aside, substance abuse is a real issue," one read. "We use tongue in cheek humor to bring attention to those issues."
"With that being said, if you need help with substance abuse issues please contact us & we'll find resources," read another. "That does NOT mean jail time."
It's not the first time the Wyoming P.D. has used its Twitter feed to poke fun at stoners. The department posted a similar message last year.
