Man sought in Fayetteville gun theft, killing Thursday night

Fayetteville police were searching Friday morning for a man wanted in a Thursday night robbery and killing, police said.

According to a news release, warrants have been issued for Karon Peair Streets, 19, of Windsor Drive, on charges of attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into occupied property and felony larceny. Police anticipate the charge being upgraded to murder.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed the suspect robbed a family member of a handgun from the 200 block of N. Windsor Drive fled on foot and opened fire on a residence in the 200 block of S. Windsor Drive," the release said.

According to the release, officers were called to the 200 block of North Windsor Drive at 8:13 p.m. Thursday on a report of a stolen firearm. Eight minutes later, police were called to a shooting in the 200 block of South Windsor Drive, There, they found a man who had been shot in the arm and chest.

"It appears the victim was targeted," said Officer Jeremy Strickland. "The victim and suspect were known to each other."

The individual was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries, according to the release. His name was not released.

According to police, Streets was last seen near the 1200 block of Ramsey Street.
