FRANKLIN TWP. - After shooting his friend in the head, Walter Gilliano immediately tried to save his life, according to court documents.
The Franklin Township man's efforts were fruitless, though, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said.
Chad Stuart died hours after being shot once in the head in the parking lot of Villari's Sports Bar just before 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, the prosecutor's office said.
The Clayton man was 31.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Gilliano and Stuart had an argument earlier in the evening, but settled the dispute before going to the bar, a witness reported.
But, the two reportedly got into it again in the parking lot around 2 a.m.
Gilliano then left, the court documents say, with a warning that Stuart and the unnamed witness "better be gone" when he returned. When Gilliano came back with a handgun about two hours later, he had a brief conversation with Stuart and then allegedly shot him once in the head, according to investigators.
The witness fled the area, but Gilliano stayed, calling 911 and then attempting to save Stuart's life, the affidavit reports.
"Upon officers' arrival, the defendant … was observed giving life-saving techniques to the victim," who was taken to Cooper University Hospital Trauma Center in Camden, where he died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police arrested Gilliano in the parking lot and also found a 9mm handgun and a spent cartridge at the scene.
Gilliano, 25, also is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and illegal possession of a weapon in addition to criminal attempt murder, the chief said.
Gilliano is being held in jail. The charges against him are allegations; he has not been convicted of any crime connected to this case.
