Is this major Game of Thrones character actually still alive?

Note: This article contains Drogon-sized spoilers for season 8 episode 5 of Game of Thrones, 'The Bells'.

Game of Thrones' latest episode, 'The Bells', was so divisive and so, well, disappointing that fans are calling for the entirety of season 8 to be re-made. Almost 400,000 of them, in fact.

And now, with just days to go until the show's final episode, a pretty convincing fan theory has emerged that might just turn everyone's opinion around - or split fans even further.

Following the deaths of several key characters - Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy, and The Hound, to name but a few - one Thrones fan has since suggested that Jaime Lannister, who appeared to meet his fate alongside Cersei, could well still be alive.

Rather than dying in a pile of rubble alongside his twin sister and twisted true love Cersei, a Tumblr user has put forward the theory that Jaime possibly managed to escape - and the reasons are all to do with actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and the rest of the cast (via Cosmopolitan).

Because not only have cast members neglected to pay tribute to Nikolaj and his character on social media since the episode aired, but a post-exit interview has yet to emerge.

When one asked Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd where his interview with Nikolaj was, Hibberd cryptically replied: "Thanks! Holding that one for a bit..."

Does this mean Nikolaj is about to make a shock return as Jaime - and hopefully redeem that destroyed character-arc? Or are EW just trying to limit Game of Thrones fatigue?

We guess we'll find out on Sunday...

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Tune in to Digital Spy's Game of Thrones livestreams on Monday evenings, straight after each episode, on Instagram and Facebook.
