One of the surprises we got today from Google's hardware event were a pair of bluetooth headphones called Pixel Buds. They're wired behind the neck but they're every bit a competitor to Apple's AirPods.

They're $159, they're available in November and they'll let you understand 40 different languages. Seriously.

The onstage demo that blew everyone's minds was a live language translation feature. A conversation onstage translating from English to Swedish went off without a hitch. The translations followed about 1-2 seconds after the people finished their sentences. The presenters boasted that it was like "having a personal translator by your side." You'll need a Pixel 2 to take advantage of this feature unfortunately.

You just have to touch and hold the right earbud and it takes off. You can use touch controls for other things like pausing music and calling up the Assistant. The fun is all for Android users, if you're rocking an iPhone the Pixel Buds are just a pair of headphones.

The device comes in a rechargeable case that allows for 24 hours total battery time and tuns about 5 hours between charges. It comes in the same colors as the Pixel 2: white, black and blue.

Google just helped NASA find an alien planet thousands of light-years from Earth

And we're tied, folks.  Thanks to Google and some fancy artificial intelligence, we now know that our solar system is just slightly less unique than we may have thought.  Scientists have discovered an eighth planet circling the sunlike star Kepler-90, 2,545 light-years away. This means that our solar system and Kepler 90 are now tied for the most number of known planets within a star system.  SEE ALSO: Now you can own NASA's Golden Record on vinyl So yeah, maybe we're not that special after all. The newfound planet, named Kepler-90i, was found using machine learning technology from Google that effectively teach a computer to spot patterns in large datasets. In this case,...

Google crunches data to help NASA find two new planets

By Paresh Dave SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's Google and NASA said on Thursday that advanced computer analysis identified two new planets around distant stars, including one that is part of the first star system with as many planets as Earth's solar system. The research by Google and the University of Texas at Austin that used data from NASA raised the prospects of new insights into the universe by feeding data into computer programs that can churn through information faster and more in-depth than humanly possibly, a technique known as machine learning.

Google discovers new planet which proves Solar System is not unique

Google has previously discovered lost tribes, missing ships and even an forgotten forest. But now it has also found two entire planets. The technology giant used one its algorithms to sift through thousands of signals sent back to Earth by Nasa's Kepler space telescope. One of the new planets was found hiding in the Kepler-90 star system, which is around 2,200 light years away from Earth. The discovery is important because it takes the number of planets in the star system up to eight, the same as our own Solar System. It is the first time that any system has been found to have as many planets ours. The Kepler-90 star system has weight planets, like our own  Credit: Nasa Andrew Vanderburg,...
