Former Game of Thrones star Richard Madden has weighed in on the series finale, admitting he was "totally surprised" by who ended up taking the throne.

Well, Richard, who played Robb Stark on the show, hasn't actually seen 'The Iron Throne'. However, the outcome of Bran Stark ending up as King was spoiled for him… and he was as shocked as everyone else.

"It's been spoiled quite a few times for me already," Madden told Good Morning America. "Totally surprised - I'll have to watch it now and see how he ended up there."

The actor's character was killed off years ago at the infamous Red Wedding, though we're sure Robb's looking down and smiling at the Starks ending up triumphant in the end.

After all, the finale saw Bran named King of the Six Kingdoms, while Sansa Stark became Queen of an independent North, essentially achieving what Robb set out to do in the first few seasons.

While it's an outcome that hardly anyone saw coming, Gwendoline Christie, who plays Ser Brienne of Tarth, was on the money back in 2017.

In a newly unearthed interview from then, she said: "Don't you think it's going to be someone out of left field? Don't you feel like those seem like the obvious choices, and what we know about the show is it constantly surprises you?

"So I'm wondering if it might be Bran. Just because we keep seeing the world from his perspective. We keep seeing the visions. So is he the future projecting in the past?"

Meanwhile, Isaac Hempstead Wright has defended Bran's triumph, despite the fact that the young Stark doesn't actually do much in the final season.

Game of Thrones aired on HBO in the US, and you can also catch up on the show via Hulu. Viewers in the UK can catch up via Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
