Mar. 27-Anthony J. Kilker
SHENANDOAH - A Summit Hill woman charged with assaulting and injuring a Mahanoy Township police officer on Feb. 17 appeared for a preliminary hearing recently before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.
Ceres Maria Lozada, 35, of 239 E. Fell St., was arrested by Mahanoy Township police Patrolman Matthew Williams and charged with one count each of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and three counts of terroristic threats.
Prosecutors withdrew the aggravated assault charge and Lozada waived the remaining offenses to Schuylkill County Court, where she can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial.
Williams charged Lozada with an incident at Park Place and Robinson Road, where he was called for a report of an intoxicated driver.
After seeing Lozada behind the wheel in a condition that she was a danger to herself and others, Williams said, he took the woman into custody for public drunkenness.
After placing the woman inside his police vehicle, Williams said, Lozada managed to slip out of the handcuffs and was yelling and kicking at the driver's side back door.
Williams said he opened the door to place the woman back in restraints but she struck him in the chest with a closed fist. Lozada continued to resist and struggle until she was placed in custody after additional police units arrived.
At the Mahanoy Township police station, Williams said, Lozada continued yelling and said several times to him and two other officers "you just wait" and "I'm going to get yall's children."
