Can the Texas A&M Aggies defense slow down Will Rodgers?

When the Aggies take the field Saturday against the Mississippi State Bull dogs, they will be taking on the most productive quarterback in the SEC, Bulldogs signal caller Will Rodgers.

With Mike Leach calling plays, Rodgers finished 2nd in the conference in 2021 in passing yards and touchdowns, and has followed it up by throwing for 1,386 yards and 16 touchdowns through 4 games. That's over 160 yards and 3 touchdowns more than anyone else in the SEC.

The Mississippi State offense presents a lot of challenges for defenses, mainly driven by how balanced they are. Not necessarily in the traditional sense of the word between run and pass, but more in terms of how they balance the touches between various players in a multitude of areas of the field.

Through 4 games, Rodgers has completed passes to 14 different players, 5 of which have 15 or more receptions, and none with more than 21.

If the Aggies defense is going to slow this group down, it's going to be important for Antonio Johnson, Demani Richardson, and the rest of the A&M secondary to stay sound, and play balanced football, to avoid giving up big plays, after giving up their first big coverage bust of the season against Arkansas, a team that leans run first, it will be interesting to see the Aggies defense line up against such a pass heavy attack.
