Alabama football had no troubles against Vanderbilt on the scoreboard, but the Crimson Tide couldn't escape without an injury to a starter.

Byron Young, a starting defensive lineman, had to leave the game with an injury that Nick Saban said postgame was a sprained ankle.

"That's the only update I've got," Saban said.

No. 2 Alabama football (4-0, 1-0 SEC) defeated Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-1 SEC) 55-3 on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Young had to leave the game on a cart in the second half to go to the locker room. He did not return to the field until late in the game, but he was not in uniform anymore. Young was using crutches to maneuver around the field on the sideline and postgame.

It remains to be seen if he will miss time and if so, how much he will miss. Young had started all four games at one defensive end spot for the Crimson Tide this season, registering three hurries and five total pressures ahead of the game against Vanderbilt, according to Pro Football Focus' charting. Prior to Saturday, Young had nine total tackles and 0.5 sacks.

If Young has to sit out a game, Alabama will likely turn to Justin Eboigbe and Tim Smith as the starters. These are the primary three defensive ends the Crimson Tide has used, along with Jamil Burroughs.
