Atlanta Hawks sign Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, former Sixers and Nets wing

Former Sixers first-round pick signs with Atlanta Hawks originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

It was a busy day for a pair of former Process Sixers, including one who found a new home with the team that bounced the Sixers from the playoffs just months ago.

Ex-Sixers wing and 2016 NBA Draft pick Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, who spent the 2020-21 season with the Nets, signed a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, The Athletic's Chris Kirschner reported.

Luwawu-Cabarrot will "have an opportunity" to make the team in Hawks training camp.

Luwawu-Cabarrot spent the first two-plus years of his NBA career with the Sixers before being dealt to Oklahoma City as part of the trade that sent Mike Muscala to Philly -- and Muscala eventually helped the Sixers draft Tyrese Maxey. So, big stuff.

After less than a year in Oklahoma City, Luwawu-Cabarrot was traded to the Bulls, then signed and waived by the Cavaliers, and then signed a deal with the Nets. He averaged 6.4 points per game last year on 31.4% shooting from deep and 81.4% from the free throw line while averaging 18.1 minutes per game in 58 games with the Nets.

I'm not terribly surprised Luwawu-Cabarrot is on the fringe of NBA rosters as he heads into his sixth year in the league. His three-point shooting isn't consistent enough to warrant a regular roster spot, and he doesn't do enough else on the court. I liked his game when the Sixers drafted him -- springy, athletic guy to play at the three with tons of upside -- but he hasn't really grown into that potential.

Elsewhere, former Sixers No. 3 overall pick Jahlil Okafor was waived by the Nets, just five days after he was traded by the Pistons to Brooklyn in the DeAndre Jordan salary dump.

Okafor averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game last year in 12.9 minutes per game across 27 games with Detroit.

Long live the process.
