Jul 16, 2022; Los Angeles, CA, USA; American League Futures shortstop Anthony Volpe (7) returns to the dugout after striking out in the first inning of the All Star-Futures Game at Dodger Stadium.

The Yankees, who have been cautious in recent seasons when it comes to trading high-end minor league talent, had four of their prospects ranked on Keith Law of The Athletic's new Top 100 list ahead of the 2023 season.

Those prospects:

SS Anthony Volpe, No. 8
OF Jasson Dominguez, No. 32
SS Oswald Peraza, No. 76
OF Everson Pereira, No. 86

Volpe, Dominguez, and Peraza were also on MLB Pipeline's new list that came out last week. Pereira was not.

In addition to being cautious lately when it comes to trading their top prospects, the Yanks have stayed out of the top of the free agent shortstop market the last few years, passing on the chance to sign Corey Seager, Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, and others.

That has seemingly been because they're waiting for Volpe to take over at short.

Law had this to say about Volpe, who could make his big league debut this season:

"I don't know for a fact that the Yankees have sat out the free agent shortstop market because they think Volpe's a star, but I think Volpe's a star, so I can hardly blame them."

As far as the toolsy Dominguez, Law wrote:

"The body is maxed out, but there's also no need for him to get stronger or develop more power. I see a guy with three plus-plus tools who is the age of a college sophomore and has earned his way to Double A. What's not to like?"
